Texas Camp 2012 News

This year we will be utilizing the new state-of-the-art facilities of the Sports Center at Greene Family Camp, located down the hill from the building we have been using all these years. Outside in front is a bandstand suitable for social gatherings. Inside are two rooms. The large one at the back will accommodate our wonderful dance floor, our friendly Camp Band, and Balkan Bazaar’s display of tantalizing goodies to buy. The smaller room will function much as the Staff Lounge has for so many years: as Registration Central, TIFD Sales, and a place to sit and relax. Meals will continue to be served in the main building.

For those who like to plan ahead, the evening party themes are
as follows:

  • Thursday, “Time Machine”—think “Dr. Who,” “The Twilight Zone,” “Back to the Future,” “Star Trek,” etc.
  • Friday, “Bulgaria’s Neighbors”—Rumania, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece, and Turkey
  • Saturday, “Bulgaria”—of course!

As announced in the July eLetter, Yuliyan Yordanov will be the featured teacher at Camp this year. In addition to teaching Bulgarian and other Balkan dances, he will be doing a children’s session. Born in Bulgaria, he grew up in Doyrentsi, a village in the Lovech region of north central Bulgaria, where he was immersed in dancing and singing from a young age. He later completed his studies at the Academy of Music and Dance Art in Plovdiv, and for nine years worked professionally in Lovech as a traditional Bulgarian dance instructor, choreographer, and artistic director of youth ensembles.
