Old Country Weekend 2018

In November, Oklahoma City International Folk Dancers held its 35th annual Old Country Weekend in Kingston, Oklahoma. Fifty dancers from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Washington attended the workshop. Featured teacher Yves Moreau taught 12 Bulgarian dances from 7 ethnographic regions of Bulgaria.

Yves takes a moment to share a joke with workshop participants.

Having celebrated his 70th birthday and 50 years of teaching Bulgarian folk dances, Yves announced that this would be his last workshop in North America (his final workshop was in Japan). We can thank Yves for introducing many of our favorite dances over the years, including Doubrudzanksa Reka, Idam ne Idam, Jove Male Mome, Vlasko, An Dro Retournee, and La Bastringue.

Austin musicians Anne Alexander and Don Weeda provided music for the evening dance parties. Live music has been a key component since the first Old Country Weekend in 1983. Anne and Don have provided live music every year since 1996.
