At TIFD’s Board meeting in May of this year, I was appointed to serve as Safety Committee Chair. I am excited to be building a framework alongside the Board so that we can effectively respond to the rare cases of injuries and incidents of harassment that occur in large dance groups such as our own.
We have designed a Code of Conduct which follows the standard set forth by many other recreational dance groups. We will notify you of any updates to the Code as it undergoes the legal vetting process.
We are also planning a training session with SAFE Austin so that board members and dance community leaders from TIFD and affiliate organizations can learn how to respond well to reports of harassment. The training is free and will be held on a Saturday in September (exact date TBA), and if you are interested in attending, please contact me at email@example.com.
If you are certified in CPR, AED, First Aid, or are a medical professional and are willing to serve as a first responder at Texas Camp 2017, please email me and let me know. You will not be identified to the public, but it will help me to know how many people are available to help should the need arise. I’m looking forward to working with you to ensure a safe and enjoyable dance experience for everyone.
